Beara Peninsula

Dominated by the hulking presence of Hungry Hill (famous from the novel of the same name by Daphne du Maurier), the rugged Beara Peninsula is yet another one of the unique and beautiful promontories that make West Cork such a joy to live in.

The Southern side stretches from Glengarriff westwards to Adrigole and on to Castletownbere, the wide straight stretches of road making it all the more possible for one to enjoy the breathtaking views while driving. Further West still is Castletownbere – Ireland’s second-largest fishing port and bustling town. Bere Island- with its fascinating history and beautiful beaches – lies just off shore, while the coastal villages of Allihies and Eyries lie further west.

The warm and inviting communities of the Beara Peninsula coupled with its spectacular setting make it one of the most photogenic places in Ireland. There is a good range of sights to see and activities to participate in, from hill walking to fishing or sailing. There is a good road system connecting Castletownbere with towns further east and there is a good choice of primary and secondary schools.
