West Cork Property in 2007
The New Year brings an unknown atmosphere to the West Cork Property scene.
For Harrington Estates, the year did end positively with a flurry of activity that is not typical of the year-end but was nonetheless welcome. In fact, it has been a feature of recent years that the months of November and December – so often dead and cold as the weather itself – have seen a lot of activity. I’ve gone into the reasons why in previous articles and it’s a phenomenon rather like an economic version of Global Warming.
In fact, when added up, the number of sales in 2006 actually exceeded that of 2005. This was a somewhat unexpected result in that business seemed to be that little bit slower all over and the competition in the West Cork Property scene generally and in our areas of activity specifically (Bantry, Sheep’s Head, Beara, Glengarriff) had increased quite a bit.
But it’s a case of the wise dog for the hard road as Harrington Estates continued to count on its experience, expertise and professionalism and hard work. We are also grateful to the loyalty shown by clients and customers alike who have shown faith and goodwill to our company.
One of the nice benefits to be found in this business is that you get to meet a lot of interesting and pleasant people and 2006 was no exception. We made a lot of new friends, many of them visitors to Ireland and West Cork for the first time.
And so, to the coming year. It has been a year where growth has slowed down nationally to almost a standstill but I think that there are mitigating factors which have played an important role in this and those factors are now taken out of the picture. So, my prediction for the year is that the West Cork property market will see, once again, sustained growth of the region of 6%, with a steadier pattern than that of 2007.
