Sheep’s Head Property West Cork Property
The Sheep’s Head Property scene is, quintessentially, a microcosm of the West Cork Property scene.

On the Sheep’s Head Peninsula, there are numerous beauty spots. The photo just above illustrates this point perfectly. It was taken down near the end of the peninsula on a typically dramatic and sunny day. There is also an ecclectic mix of residents of varying nationalities living in the area. The post-war years saw a lot of people coming from Britain, Holland and Germany principally. This was in West Cork as a whole and the trend continued through the 1960’s and 1970’s. The upheaval in Northern Ireland meant that the number of British daring to venture into the Republic narrowed to a trickle and soon the number of incomers was, in the majority, German.
Today, as a combination of the peace accord in the North and the relative decline of the German economy, the vast majority of immigrants are from the UK. The economic boom has also meant that people from the former Eastern bloc countries are here in large numbers too. The majority are here on a short-term basis with the aim of renting as cheaply as possible and making money and gathering experience. For those with a more long-term view, there is a minority of house-buyers too. The Americans have been coming to the area in fairly consistent numbers.
So, with all this beautiful scenery, mixture of nationalities and calm country living, The Sheep’s Head Property market mirrors, in many ways, the the overall picture of the West Cork Property market.
