Sheep's Head/ Durrus Developments
With Property along the Sheep’s Head Peninsula and the Durrus area at an all-time high in terms of the demand on it, it’s not too surprising to hear that a new premises is about to open.
In Durrus village, there are already 3 pubs in a village which probably has a population of under 1,000 people. There are also 3 shops, a mechanic, a GAA pitch, a crèche, 2 primary schools, and a soccer pitch. It might sound like a lot, but you’ll hear no-one in the Durrus area complaining because such a wealth of facilities for such a small place only adds to the quality of life in this coastal village.
So, is there room for another? Well, almost certainly, yes. You see, typical of West Cork towns and villages, although Durrus might only count a fairly small number of inhabitants in the village itself, if you start counting all the citizens that live within a 10km radius, you’ll probably find that there are twice or threes times as many again living within striking distance.
The pub in question is the one formally known as Ivo’s. It was sold through Harrington Estates at auction recently and the new owner is due to re-open on Wednesday 10th of May 2006. The new name, if rumour is to believed, will bear the name of the captivating Sheep’s Head Peninsula, the gateway to which Durrus is the undisputed title-holder.
