Bantry Estate Agents Choice
In the area of West Cork/ Bantry, there is a wide choice of Estate Agents, or “Auctioneers”, as is the more common term in these parts of the world.
Choice is important because it is a very important decision to make – i.e. choosing one’s home. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a holiday home, a permanent home or an investment home. There is always a lot of money at stake and an equally large emotional investment.
Emotion does play a large part in the process of choosing. It’s important that you fell comfortable with your choice of auctioneer/ estate agent. I often find that clients from abroad, and in particular the UK, are very uncertain of their relationship with their auctioneer at first. One of the few significant tangible cultural differences between the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom is that in Britain, the estate agents is regarded as a sort of pariah on society; a lowly life-form located at some point below the grass snake (which, is incidentally, another life-form we don’t get in Ireland). As a consequence, there is (I presume; I haven’t had direct experience to corroborate) a sort of psychological stand-off between estate agent and client. In Ireland, the relationship is a little bit more… well, normal, I suppose. Whereas in the UK, the client and auctioneer are in clearly defined roles of mistrust and suspicion, the Irish situation is.. well, different. It’s a little hard to explain in words, but it’s clear in the eyes of most British buyers when they have their first brush with the creature known as the Bantry Estate Agent. Suspicion from the buyers is met with slight bemusement from the agent. A few jokes and smiles later, the guard is down and we are getting on with business. Makes sense?
